This workshop is all about sharpening your eye and refining your instincts in the street. Sam will introduce practical and creative strategies for seeing more clearly, working the frame, anticipating moments, and making images that resonate emotionally and visually.

SUNDAY – The Art of Editing: From Project to Publication
Time: 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM
Location: Workshop space near city centre
This intensive editing and sequencing workshop focuses on how to turn a collection of photographs into a meaningful project or zine. Participants bring a selection of images (from Saturday or their own archive) to edit and refine under Sam’s guidance.

Sam Ferris is one of Australia’s most prolific and awarded contemporary street photographers. Ferris’ work has been exhibited across the globe and featured in numerous publications. His Sydney portfolio was selected for the recent Thames & Hudson anthology ‘Reclaim the Street’ (2023), edited by Matt Stuart. He was amongst three Australian photographers with images selected for the landmark title ‘100 Great Street Photographs’ (2017), by Prestel Publishing and edited by David Gibson. Recently, his work has received major features in both Epic Review and Leica Fotographie International magazines.
In 2022, Ferris was honoured to be named a judge of the $10,000 ‘Australian Life’ Photographic Prize, of which he has also been a three-time finalist in 2015, 2021 & 2023, where his image went on to be named the First Prize winner. He was named 'Australasia's Top Emerging Photographer' in 2019 in the category of documentary/ photojournalism by a panel of over 30 local and international judges and in 2020, he was profiled for the Australian Photographers’ Journal 'Why Photograph?' series. 2021 saw Ferris publish his first monograph, In Visible Light, which has since sold out in its first, second and third printings.
